The Expanding Universe

The expanding universe suggested a time when the universe started its expansion. This concept is still vigorously argued attempting to avoid need for a Creator.

The twentieth century was changed by the discovery of the expanding universe.  This discovery changed our view of the Universe and out place within it. Before the telescope was invented by Galileo in 1610, astronomers believed the universe consisted of only a few thousand stars and a few dozen nebulae. Telescopes and optics improved substantially over the nineteenth century allowing better and deeper visualization of the cosmos.  By the end of the century, the universe seemed endless with billions of stars and millions of nebulae. There seemed to be no end in sight – there seemed to be no boundary… Read More »

The age of white dwarf stars is one of the best ways to help determine the age of the universe.  We took a brief look at how this is done. But to really understand how this is done, it is necessary to take a deep dive into what a white dwarf star really is, how they form, how they cool off, how all white dwarfs are nearly identical, and how they are able to determine the age of the universe. White dwarf stars are the dead remnants of old stars that are no longer burning nuclear fuel; they are still… Read More »

There is Not a Chance the universe could have been created without an intelligent designer.  The more we have learned about the universe and about physics in general, the more we have come to understand the complexity of science.  But even more importantly, we have also come to understand how the physical constants of nature are required to be the values they are in a very precise manner, even though they do not have to be that value at all. One of the physical constants – the cosmological constant – is one of the most precisely tuned constants required for… Read More »

COBE Finds the Big Bang The COBE satellite was able to find hard evidence for the occurrence of the Big Bang.  Further study would make this event one of the best understood and best-documented events in the history of the universe. One of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century was the cosmic background radiation and what it means.  The background radiation comes to earth from all directions equally and is nearly exactly the same (isotopy) in all directions as well.  The existence and characteristics of this radiation were predicted decades before its initial characterization in 1992, but the importance… Read More »
